TNR Mission - Al Gharafa
We are community-led TNR project in Al Gharafa: trapping, neutering & returning community cats to reduce overpopulation. We work with vets, volunteers & locals to ensure humane care & long-term population control. Our pilot project is Al Gharafa AC park!
About Our Mission
Mission Objective
To humanely reduce and manage the population of community cats in Gharaffa through a targeted Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) initiative, promoting a safer, healthier environment for both cats and residents.
Your Contribution Needed
With a very badly ''guestimated'' number of cats close to a hundred with a large population of kittens, it would take approx. 25000 QAR to neuter the stray cat population. This would not only reduce births and suffering, but would also improve and prolong the life of cats that remain in the park. We are partnering with nearby clinics, which charge 150 and 250 QAR for male and female cats, respectively.
While we are prioritising TNR - vaccinations, deworming, parasite prevention and treatment, among other expenses accumulate. Please leave a comment, if you would like to donate towards medical treatment.
If you leave your name, we will be able to contact you and show you which cat was neutered, de-wormed, had their ears cleaned, and potentially vaccinated due to your contribution. Hence, you may even visit the cat, and, of course, if we see it in the park, we can send you pictures of their well-being.
Our Goals
1. Trap and sterilize all unneutered community cats in the designated Gharaffa zones, starting with the Gharaffa air conditioned park.
2. Return cats to their original territory to live out their lives without further reproduction
3. Engage local residents, compound management, and businesses to build awareness and support
4. Ensure post-operative care and monitoring of released cats where possible
5. Maintain a clean and organized feeding system to discourage mess and pests
Why is TNR important?
TNR helps reduce overpopulation of community cats, ensuring their well-being and preventing future issues.
How can I help?
You can volunteer, donate, or spread awareness about our TNR efforts in Al Gharafa.
Success Stories
When you visit Al Gharafa A/C park, keep an eye out for cats with a small cut on the tip of their ear – this means they’ve been neutered through our TNR program. You can also check out our Facebook and Instagram pages to see all the cats we’ve helped.
