Helping Cats to Beat the Heat
Qatar’s summer heat can be dangerous for stray cats. With a few small actions—like providing fresh water, offering frozen water bottles, and creating shaded spots—you can help cats stay cool and safe. Every step makes a big difference in their survival and comfort.
RESOURCES

1. Provide Shade & Shelter
Use: Cardboard boxes under trees, styrofoam containers, wooden pallets with cloth covers
Place in shaded spots (under trees, buildings, or cars)
Raise slightly off the ground for airflow
Cover with white cloth or reflective material
2. Keep Water Clean & Cool
Use heavy ceramic bowls or wide plastic containers that don't tip easily
Keep bowls in shaded, wind-protected areas
Add ice cubes every morning to keep water cool longer
Change water twice daily - bacteria grows fast in the heat!

3. Avoid Heat Hazards
No metal bowls — they burn
Don’t place bowls on concrete
Avoid dark, unventilated boxes
4. Freeze 500 mL Water Bottles
Wrap them in cloth or place them beside feeding spots or shaded hideouts
Cats will lie next to them to cool down - safe and simple
